What’s NOT inlcuded in our elopement packages
It’s helpful to know what costs you might incur over and above our elopement package price. That helps you to put together a comprehensive budget. In addition to our services, you should plan on any or all of the following:
- Marriage license ($30 in Colorado. California varies by county: $65 to $125)
- Travel costs to get here if you don’t live in the area
- Lodging (typically your guests would pay for their own)
- Post-ceremony meal for you and your guests (if you have any)
- Rings
- Wedding attire
- Gratuities – it is typical to tip the officiant and your hair stylist. See our tipping guide for details.
What is the total cost to elope in California or Colorado?
The cost to elope in Colorado or California is fairly comparable–with some areas commanding a higher price (e.g Telluride in Colorado and San Francisco in California). Overall, however, the two states are comparable. Note that Colorado offers more free sites where you can elope. California can be awash in red tape at times. But if you want a free site there, we can suggest some.
The total cost to elope can vary tremendously. Factors like your elopement package inclusions, how far you need to travel, how many guests, whether the venue you choose is free or not, the expertise and experience of your vendors (less-experienced vendors will have a lower price tag), plus a whole host of other variables come into play when setting up your elopement budget.
Technically, you can elope for the cost of a marriage license and an officiant. (And in Colorado, you don’t even need the officiant because you can self-solemnize your marriage.) But that’s not what most people are looking for when they put together a budget for eloping.
So, let’s talk about a typical scenario.
Overall, your actual elopement wedding costs (marriage license, location consulting, 2 hours of photography, hair and makeup for one, a bouquet and boutonniere, an officiant, elopement wedding coordination, dinner for two after the ceremony) can run anywhere from $2,500 – $6,000. Then you’d need to budget for travel, lodging, rings and wedding attire. This amount assumes a free site for your elopement ceremony. If you have guests, that involves more moving parts, so you should expect to pay from $500 – $1,500 more.
