Everything you Need to Know about the Legalities of Getting Married in Colorado

  • Marriage license must be obtained in the state of Colorado for weddings held here. 
  • You may obtain your license at any County Clerk and Recorder’s office (does not have to be in the county in which you live or the one in which you will be married).
  • Licenses are only valid for 30 days, so you must go sometime within the 30 days prior to your wedding.
  • No blood test is required.
  • You do not need to be a resident of the state of Colorado or of the United States in order to obtain a marriage license in Colorado.
  • No waiting period is needed. The clerk will give you your license immediately.
  • The two of you must go to the County Clerk & Recorder’s office together and bring photo identification.
  • If you have been married before, you need to know the date and place of your divorce or death of previous spouse. You do not need to show your divorce decree unless your divorce has been finalized within the past 90 days.
  • The cost is $30.00.

Don’t forget to bring your license on your wedding day. Your officiant will file it with the county on your behalf and the county will mail it back to you within a few weeks.
